What is WWOOF?
WWOOF is an exchange – you volunteer to help in exchange for food, accommodation and learning opportunities in organic agriculture. WWOOF links volunteers with organic farmers and host farms that welcome volunteer help at certain times. In order to volunteer on WWOOF Host Farms in the Philippines you must become a member of WWOOF Philippines.
What does a membership of WWOOF Philippines include?
Your annual membership fee entitles you to receive password for online membership and Certification. You will then have an access to the lists of host farms in the Philippines with their contact information.
How long does it take to become a member?
It takes between 3-5 working days after receiving your application and payment to become a member. Your password will be sent to you once confirmed of your membership fee payment.
How long can I go WWOOFing for?
WWOOF stays can vary from a weekend to a long term stay. The details about each host are given online and its up to you to negotiate what suits both the host and yourself.
Do I get paid for what I do?
No! You are volunteering and in return for your help, you will receive food and accommodation and a wonderful interesting experience!
How do I join WWOOF Philippines?
You can fill up an application form for WWOOF Philippines and pay your membership fees of U.S. $ 25.00 or an equivalent of Philippine Peso of 1000.00 Though our Bank at Union Bank of the Philippines, thru Western Union or Paypal.
How long is my membership valid?
Membership is valid for one year. So if you joined on the 1st of day of September 2010, your membership would expire on 1st day of September 2011.
Do I need experience to be able to be at farm?
No, yet you do need to bring the willingness to learn and try your best. The host will guide you to appropriate helping experiences. Hosts do not expect you to know a lot about farming when you arrive, but they do expect you to be willing to learn and able to fit in with their lifestyle.
How do I contact the host?
You can contact the host either thru email or telephone number listed in their profile. If contacting by email, put “WWOOF” in the subject line and then start by writing your name and ID / membership number. Ask the host if they can use your help and indicate when you would like to come. We suggest that you don’t try to arrange things “last minute” because hosts are very busy people and may take a while to respond to your inquiry.
Is there an age limit?
The only requirement is that you are at least 18 years old. There is no age limit, so you could do it if you were 60! The average age is 20-30. Many are in the 40’s.
Can I use my membership to WWOOF in other countries?
No! WWOOF membership is not transferable and each WWOOF organization is separate and independent from one another. There is no international membership – you need to join each one separately.
Do I need to have insurance?
You are responsible for your own safety. Check that you have insurance that covers medical care including transportation home, accidents and lost of property. You should also be covered against you injuring other people or losing or breaking other people’s property. Make sure your insurer knows that you will be a volunteer on a farm.
